Brask Participates in Pics & Poets Pop-up Program

Motif Magazine paired visual artists to interpret a poem by writers, and paired poets to interpret visual works of art into poetry. All the resulting poetry and pictures created were exhibited in a pop-up event at the Waterfire Arts Center with an exhibit and poetry reading.

Rachel Brask’s paintings “Dusky Dawning Rain” and “Ocean Rainstorm Rolling In” inspired a painting by Mark Binder, titled “Rainy Days.”

Brask created an oil painting inspired by Binder’s poem about coffee, resulting in a painting still evoking rainy styled sensations, but not of her usual landscapes, but rather an object (cup of coffee), still barely visible through the rainy veil.

Says Brask of the experience, “This process definitely put me outside of my comfort zone. I wasn’t sure how I was going to interpret something visually but still do it in with my rain spin on it. After tossing one painting in the trash, I finally came up with one I could live with.”

Participating Artist List includes:

Charlotte Collins, Emma Malbon, Gina Lerman, Jade Sisti, John Kotula, Meg Coss, Melanie Ducharme, Sara Breslin, Thomas Terceira, Ülo Pikkov, Zoe Anderson, Max Corderio, Amanda Grafe, Ricky Rainbow Beard, Brendan Maddock, Lenin Roman.
